Our fourth ALFF workshop took place at the University of Ghent from 3 to 7 July 2017. The main theme of this 4-day workshop, led by Dr Olivier De Clerck and Dr Lieven Sterck, was Bioinformatics and it covered an introduction to Unix, ORCAE (VIB) and PLAZA, and the application of these platforms to gene prediction and genome. Two of our ALFF researchers – Shu Min Kao and Srilakshmy L. Harikrishnan – delivered talks on ORCAE using the Ectocarpus genome models as a case study) and PLAZA (platform for comparative genomics developed by VIB), which focussed on gene searches and gene functions retrieval, looking for over-represented pathways in a given list.
This work was followed by practical exercises in the fields of Metagenomics and transcriptomics. For more information, please click here
