Frederick De Boever has been appointed to project 12 which is based at the Scottish Association for Marine Science – SAMS. His research is supervised by Dr David Green. Originally from Belgium, Frederick completed his Master degree at the University of Ghent in July 2015. His thesis focused on isolating and identifying diatom associated bacteria through agar plating methods and sequencing of partial 16S rDNA PCR amplicons, where isolated strains were used in co-culture experiments to help quantify the growth of axenic diatom cultures. With a strong interest in biology, environmental science and theoretical ecology, Frederick’s background has allowed him to gain a range of informatics and technical skills as well as develop his fascination with the world of micro-organisms.
During his spare time, Frederik enjoys spending time fishing, hiking, swimming, reading and playing music.
